The party’s position was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, 29 June 2026, in Gusau, by the state chairman, Shehu Hussaini Waziri, who called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
According to the statement, the attack occurred on Saturday during a burial ceremony in Ekusa, Odo Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, where the party said its presidential candidate was present.
Waziri condemned the incident, describing it as an attempt to intimidate opposition political actors and undermine democratic engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“This cowardly act is a direct assault on democracy and an attempt to intimidate the opposition,” Waziri said.
He urged security agencies to swiftly investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The AA leadership also called on its members and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that the party remained committed to peaceful participation in Nigeria’s democratic process despite the incident.
Waziri further emphasised the importance of protecting political actors and citizens, noting that safety and security remain critical pillars of a functioning democracy.
