Mr Olabode said the payment covers council political office holders who served between 2022 and 2023, including vice chairmen, secretaries, councillors, supervisors and advisers across the state’s 16 local government areas.
“The Ekiti State Government has approved the sum of N458,793,960 as severance benefits for local government political office holders in the state,” Olabode stated, noting that the payment recognises the service rendered by the officials.
The announcement comes amid preparations for the next local government elections in the state, scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2026.
Last week, the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission confirmed the election date, stating the polls will run from 8am to 2pm across the state’s local governments and Local Council Development Areas.
Justice Cornelius Akintayo (retd.), Chairman of EKSIEC, said the decision aligns with the provisions of Section 5, Sub-section 1 of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (Fourth Amendment) Law No. 13 of 2025.

All registered political parties are required to collect Form 001 on behalf of their candidates at the commission’s headquarters ahead of the elections, which will usher in new occupants of the positions as the tenure of the current local government chairmen and councillors ends in December 2026.
