Dr Lawal Aminu-Bala, General Manager of the Katsina State Assets Management Agency, disclosed the development while briefing journalists in Katsina.
He said the recovery followed a directive from Governor Dikko Radda to trace and repossess all public assets that had been encroached upon or converted to private use.
The initiative led to the inauguration of a committee chaired by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamma-Nasir. According to Aminu-Bala, the committee relied on a 1987 gazette that outlined the allocation of assets and liabilities between Kaduna and Katsina states at the time of separation.
“This document gave us the latitude to recover landed properties, particularly 37 houses and plots within Kaduna and Zaria, that were originally allocated to Katsina,” Aminu-Bala said.
The committee worked closely with the Kaduna State Ministry of Lands and Survey to regain control of the properties, which had been occupied by individuals, federal agencies, or converted to private use.
In addition, about 15 hectares of land belonging to Katsina in the Federal Capital Territory were successfully recovered.
Aminu-Bala added that the state government is taking steps to demarcate recovered lands and ensure their use benefits the state.
Plans have been made to recruit asset surveillance officers across Katsina, with coordinators at local government levels to supervise operations in all 361 wards.
A state coordinator based at the agency’s headquarters will oversee overall monitoring and coordination.
