Kebbi Governor Signs ₦642.9bn 2026 Budget into Law

Governor Nasir Idris signs Kebbi 2026 budget of N642.9 billion, prioritising capital expenditure and development across the state

The signing took place at Government House, Birnin Kebbi, after Speaker Alhaji Usman Muhammad-Zuru formally handed over the approved document.

Idris expressed gratitude to the speaker, principal officers, and assembly members for their diligence and timely approval of the budget.

“I am the happiest person. This government truly belongs to the people of the state. Whatever we do is done in the best interest of the people,” he said.

The governor emphasised collaboration with the House of Assembly to strengthen Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and ensure the state’s development continues without overreliance on federal allocations.

He clarified that a budget represents projected revenue and strategic planning rather than immediate cash availability.

Speaker Muhammad-Zuru described the signing as a significant milestone in Kebbi State’s democratic journey, highlighting that the budget resulted from extensive consultations, deliberations, and rigorous scrutiny.

He noted that the legislature had assented to about 60 bills so far, many of which directly impact citizens’ lives.

The 2026 budget allocates N163.57 billion, or 25 per cent, to recurrent expenditure, while capital expenditure accounts for N479.36 billion, representing 75 per cent of the total.

Muhammad-Zuru reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to collaborative governance and sustainable development for the benefit of the state’s residents.
