Tinubu’s Forgiveness Doctrine Drives Positive Appointment Choices

Daniel Bwala says Tinubu’s Positive Appointment Choices are shaped by his mother’s teachings on forgiveness and inclusion.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, said in Abuja on Thursday that Tinubu’s Positive Appointment Choices are shaped by long-standing teachings from his late mother, whose emphasis on forgiveness continues to influence his leadership style.

Bwala disclosed the guidance during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show while responding to concerns that several individuals on the latest ambassadorial list had previously criticised or worked against Tinubu.

According to Bwala, President Tinubu often recalls lessons from his mother, who served as head of market women in Lagos and urged tolerance as an essential leadership trait.

He quoted Tinubu as saying that a leader who discards everyone who offends him will one day find no one left to lead.

Bwala noted that politics in Nigeria can be fiercely competitive, leaving leaders with a choice either to embrace former opponents or shut them out.

He said Tinubu has consistently opted for inclusiveness and has a track record of welcoming individuals who once challenged him.

He added that more than 70 per cent of Tinubu’s current allies had opposed him at one point but were later integrated into his political structure.

Bwala described the approach as a powerful example of political maturity.

Recalling his first meeting with Tinubu on 10 January last year, Bwala said he intended to apologise for avoiding earlier outreach from the then-candidate.

Instead, Tinubu addressed his concerns directly, reassuring him that his anxieties about the Muslim–Muslim ticket were misplaced.

The ambassadorial list submitted to the Senate earlier this week included 32 nominees, among them former INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Reno Omokri, Femi Fani-Kayode and former Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
