Adeleke Quits PDP Amid Osun Crisis

Governor Ademola Adeleke quits PDP amid party crisis, hours before the Osun governorship primary election.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, less than 24 hours before the scheduled governorship primary election.

The development was confirmed on Monday, following revelations of a factional crisis within the party that prompted Adeleke to withdraw from seeking the PDP nomination.

PDP State Chairman Sunday Bisi had earlier announced that the primary election, initially slated for Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo, would not hold as scheduled due to internal disputes.

Despite the announcement, a letter from the party’s national secretariat insisted that the primary would proceed.

Adeleke’s resignation, dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the party Chairmen of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, cited the ongoing leadership crisis at the national level as the reason for his decision.

In the letter titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” the governor wrote:

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.

I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
