The Kano 2026 budget totals N1.368 trillion, marking the largest capital outlay ever proposed by any northern state.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the presentation on Wednesday.

According to the figures, capital expenditure accounts for 68 percent of the Kano 2026 budget at N934.6 billion, while recurrent expenditure stands at N433.4 billion, representing 32 percent. Officials say this is one of the highest capital-to-recurrent ratios recorded in recent years.

Education receives the largest allocation with N405.3 billion, representing 30 percent of the total. Infrastructure follows with N346.2 billion, while the health sector is allocated N212.2 billion.

Governor Yusuf said the priorities reflect the administration’s determination to strengthen human capital and build the physical systems required for long-term growth.

“These allocations demonstrate our unwavering determination to invest heavily in human capital development, safeguard the well-being of our people, and lay the physical foundation for sustainable growth,” he said, describing the Kano 2026 budget as a powerful roadmap for progress.

He added that Agriculture, Security, Commerce, Water, Environment, Tourism, Women and Youth Development, and People With Special Needs all received substantial provisions aimed at ensuring balanced socio-economic development.

The governor urged lawmakers to speed up consideration and passage of the bill, stressing that effective oversight and collaboration are essential to deliver the projects and services citizens expect.
