The company emphasised that the claims circulating online were misleading and inaccurate.
In a 28-second clip that captured widespread attention, an unidentified individual wearing a SAHCO reflective jacket claimed his phone was damaged after recording social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman. The video, however, revealed the worker’s intention was to thank the influencer for gifting him an iPhone, replacing his Android phone.
Speaking in pidgin, the worker said, “Thanks to the Ratel gang, VDM. He was dancing at the airport, and I was videoing him. Then, one of my Oga came and smashed my phone… So, he (VDM) just said they should find that boy, and he gave me an iPhone XR.”
SAHCO’s spokesperson, Mrs Vanessa Uansohia, addressed the viral claims, clarifying that the individual involved was not a permanent staff member but an ad-hoc worker. She explained that the phone was damaged during an interaction with airport security personnel, not by any SAHCO supervisor.
“Our attention has been drawn to a trending video involving VDM,” Uansohia said. “The individual featured is not a SAHCO staff member.
The damage to his phone resulted from an interaction with airport security personnel. We urge the public to disregard the misleading claims circulating online. SAHCO remains committed to transparency and to maintaining a respectful and truthful relationship with the public.”
