During a high-level meeting in Abuja, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu and Statistician-General of the Federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, emphasized the importance of collaboration in managing and disseminating accurate, accessible data across the country.

Prof. Yakubu described the INEC NBS Data Partnership as a timely initiative that will allow NBS to leverage INEC’s vast national infrastructure to collect data beyond elections.

He stressed the need for NBS reports to include detailed insights into polling units and collation centres—many of which operate without electricity, water, or facilities for persons with disabilities.

“These facilities serve millions of Nigerians, not only during elections but daily as schools and community spaces.

Improving them is a matter of national importance,” Yakubu said.

He reiterated that INEC remains committed to lawful collaborations that align with democratic principles and national development goals, while maintaining its independence as an electoral body.

Prince Adeniran highlighted NBS’s mission to consolidate and present Nigeria’s official statistics.

He noted that working with INEC will help make electoral data more available—especially at grassroots levels—while ensuring it is delivered in simplified formats such as infographics to promote transparency and understanding.

“Our core duty is to provide credible data for public use. The INEC NBS Data Partnership will empower citizens and decision-makers with insights that can transform lives,” Adeniran said.
