Speaking on behalf of the governors, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed declared that they are “not cowards” and will not be swayed by threats.
He stated that the party will not bow to “arrogance and impunity” and would take disciplinary action against any member who tries to undermine the party.
Mohammed’s comments were a direct reply to a statement from Wike’s camp, which had warned that the upcoming convention would be “invalid” if their demands were not met.
The group, calling themselves the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, issued a communiqué with several conditions.
They insisted there should be no “micro-zoning” of party offices and that the national chairman’s position must remain in the North-Central region, following the 2021 zoning formula.
The group also called for new congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra states, as well as a fresh South-East Zonal Congress and the immediate conduct of a local government congress in Ekiti State, all in line with existing court judgments.
Leaders across the party have reaffirmed their commitment to the convention. PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum stated that the convention is “sacrosanct” and that the party remains strong and ready to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s camp described the convention as a “done deal,” with a spokesman for the state chapter insisting no force could stop it.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who chairs the convention planning committee, also vowed to prioritize the party’s interests and deliver a credible convention.
