Wike camp PDP zoning rejection hits hard as spokesman says move came too late to save the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election
The Wike camp PDP zoning dispute has deepened as allies of Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, dismissed the party’s move to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, said on Wednesday that the decision was “too late to save the PDP,” accusing the leadership of ignoring earlier warnings before the 2023 elections.
“The head is off already, we are crying. What we should have done three years ago, we did not do,” Olayinka remarked during a television interview.
He recalled how Wike and the G-5 governors had pushed for southern zoning in 2022, but the refusal, he argued, plunged the PDP into crisis and weakened its chances against the ruling party.
With the 2027 race drawing closer, Olayinka said the party will face an uphill task convincing northern voters, even if it fields a southern candidate.

Insiders suggest talks are ongoing with two influential political figures who could reshape PDP’s fortunes if they agree to return, but details remain guarded.
