Speaking in Osogbo on Thursday during a reception held by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeleke declared his administration’s commitment to reviving activities in the local government areas, which have been largely dormant since February 17.
The halt in council operations stems from a fierce power struggle between the PDP and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), both laying claim to legitimate control following two contentious elections and conflicting court rulings.
The APC maintains that a February 10, 2025 decision by the Akure Court of Appeal reinstated its officials elected in 2022.
However, the PDP insists that its candidates, elected on February 22, 2025, hold the valid mandate.
Addressing cheering supporters, Adeleke said his administration was battling “strong forces” he likened to the Biblical Pharaoh.
“We will get our local government back and running. They want to hold Osun down. They are shocked with our delivery and transformation of Osun,” the governor declared.
He urged the people not to allow a return to what he described as “bad governance,” calling on party members to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
“We must sustain good governance. The good work must continue. Osun people are with us. God is with us. We shall overcome the Pharaohs facing us,” he added.
In solidarity, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Wale Egbedun, and Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, encouraged PDP members to remain steadfast and actively support Adeleke’s administration.
They also emphasised the importance of the CVR process, urging residents to register for their Permanent Voter Cards.
