According to a BBC Hausa Service report, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is actively lobbying Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election under its banner.
Abdullahi stated that the move is backed by widespread calls from Nigerians urging Jonathan to return, citing his past leadership qualities and statesmanlike behavior.
“He did not rig the 2015 election, and he peacefully conceded defeat for the sake of the nation,” he said.
The former president, who served one term before losing to Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, is reportedly considering the proposal.
According to PDP insiders, Jonathan is consulting widely, and one of his conditions includes receiving an automatic ticket if he agrees to run.
