Bala Mohammed Urges PDP Leaders to Return in Strong Call for Loyalty

Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed urges defected PDP leaders to return, criticising alignment with parties lacking structure and warning against disloyalty

Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, has called on defected party leaders to return to the PDP, criticising those who now associate with less established coalitions.

Speaking in Abuja at the PDP Founding Fathers and Stakeholders Consultative Conference, Mohammed expressed disappointment at recent defections, including that of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

He described the PDP as the only political party in Nigeria with enduring structure, a nationwide presence, and historical significance.

According to him, leaving such a platform for “a party that has no office” is both unwise and politically short-sighted.

“PDP has history, a legacy, a structure everywhere, and the governors are doing their best,” he stated.

“Some may go due to calculations, but I believe they will be proved wrong. We are telling them with humility: come back. This is what you built.”

Mohammed said the move to align with another party while still claiming PDP membership is dishonest and potentially harmful.

He warned against the growing trend of dual affiliations and urged leaders to choose where they truly belong.

“You cannot be in PDP and also claim to belong to a coalition. That is political indiscipline,” he said.

“You cannot belong to two places. You cannot be a man and a woman at the same time. Be who you will be.”

The governor stressed that many of the defectors had benefitted immensely from the PDP, using its platform to achieve their political goals.

He urged them not to destroy the party’s image as they depart.

“Most of you actualised your political aspirations through this party,” he said.

“Some of them left us and caused our loss in 2015, and yet we accommodated them. But if you are leaving again, don’t demarket us.”

The PDP, according to Mohammed, remains strong in structure and values. He warned against chasing short-term political gains at the expense of party integrity and national unity.

“Politics is local,” he said. “This coalition is an aberration. Come back to the platform you built.”
