INEC Introduces Online Portal as 129 Associations Seek Political Party Registration

INEC has received 129 applications for political party registration and will launch an online portal via its PFRAS system to streamline the process

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that seven new political associations have submitted applications for registration, bringing the total number of pending applications to 129.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 10, 2025, and signed by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee, the commission also announced the upcoming deployment of a new political party registration portal.

The portal will be part of the Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System (PFRAS) and is designed to modernise and streamline the political party registration process.

“Unlike the manual method used in previous registration, the commission is introducing a political party registration portal,” Olumekun said. “This will make the process faster and seamless.”

The digital platform will undergo final testing within the next week before its official rollout.

INEC stated that once deployed, associations that meet the basic requirements will be directed to proceed to the formal application stage through the PFRAS portal.

The commission also promised to release comprehensive guidelines to assist political associations in navigating the new system.

Nigeria has seen increasing interest in political participation, with more associations seeking formal recognition as political parties.

The total of 129 applications reflects growing democratic engagement.
