The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the call on Friday during the second regular meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Abuja.
Yakubu called on security agencies to ensure voters can participate without fear or violence.
He noted that although the atmosphere in Anambra was more stable than it had been four years ago during the last governorship polls, the current exercise offered a vital opportunity to enhance coordination ahead of the 8th November election.
He maintained that the success of the CVR would reflect the capacity of the security framework ahead of the off-cycle governorship contest and other bye-elections.
The Chairman emphasised the importance of early preparations. He explained that the resumption of the voter registration, which runs from 8th to 17th July, was critical to ensuring that no eligible citizen is disenfranchised.
He described the CVR as not just a logistical operation but also a litmus test for electoral safety and readiness.
In his response, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, expressed confidence in the commission’s commitment to credible elections.
Representing all ICCES members, Ribadu highlighted the need for continuous collaboration between security agencies and INEC, especially during sensitive periods such as CVR and polling day.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding democratic integrity and enabling peaceful civic participation.
“Our primary objective remains to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming elections. Therefore, we must ensure that eligible voters exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation,” Ribadu said.
He also noted that the security sub-committee of ICCES would strengthen intelligence gathering and threat mitigation.
This, he explained, includes real-time information sharing among law enforcement actors to pre-empt disruptions across electoral locations.
As the CVR approaches, both INEC and security agencies are doubling efforts to build public confidence.
