Imo APC Vows Legal Action to Restore Uzodimma’s Candidacy

Imo APC vows legal action against the court ruling favouring Rochas Okorocha as its Imo West senatorial candidate over Hope Uzodimma

The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to challenge a Federal High Court judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish former Governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.

The party maintained that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its legitimate candidate for the district, describing the judgment as a temporary setback that would not change its position.

In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, the APC said its legal team was preparing to take immediate action to set aside the ruling.

The party insisted that Uzodimma emerged through a legitimate primary election conducted under the party’s rules and monitored by the appropriate authorities.

It added that his name had been submitted to INEC as its senatorial candidate.

The APC also disputed Okorocha’s claim to the ticket, arguing that the former governor did not emerge as the party’s candidate for Imo West.

“Imo APC will take legal action over Imo West Senatorial candidacy. Governor Hope Uzodimma remains the candidate. Okorocha cannot and will not be allowed to fly our flag for Imo West,” the statement said.

The party appealed to its members, supporters and stakeholders across Orlu zone to remain calm and law-abiding while its legal team pursues the matter.

It urged them not to be distracted by the court ruling, expressing confidence that its planned legal challenge would restore Uzodimma’s position as the party’s candidate.

The dispute follows a Federal High Court judgment ordering INEC to publish Okorocha as the APC candidate for Imo West, effectively challenging Uzodimma’s position in the senatorial race.

The APC’s response signals that the disagreement over the party’s ticket is likely to continue through the courts, with the eventual outcome expected to determine which of the two political figures will represent the party in the contest.

The court’s ruling and the party’s planned challenge place the Imo West senatorial candidacy at the centre of a fresh political dispute within the APC.
