Dickson Accuses APC of Setbacks Since 2015

NDC leader Seriake Dickson accuses the APC government of setting Nigeria back since 2015 and targets victory in the 2027 elections

National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of setting Nigeria back since 2015, declaring that his party is preparing to challenge for power in the 2027 general election.

Dickson made the remarks in Abuja on Wednesday while receiving members of The Dickson Movement for Democracy, led by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Ogbidi.

The group adopted the former Bayelsa State governor as its Grand Patron.

He called on Nigerian youths to mobilise support for NDC candidates across the country, saying the party aims to win the presidency and secure a majority in the National Assembly.

According to Dickson, Nigeria needs a new political direction to address insecurity, poverty, unemployment and economic hardship, which he blamed on years of setbacks under the ruling party.

Dickson described the NDC as an alternative for Nigerians seeking political and economic reforms, saying the party’s platform was focused on restoring the country’s fortunes.

“The ticket of the NDC is a ticket of restoration of our country,” he declared.

He said the party was aiming to win the presidential election outright while securing enough seats in the National Assembly to support its proposed reform agenda.

“The presidential election is very important to us. All elections are important. We want to win the presidency on the first ballot. We also want to win a majority of seats in the National Assembly, where our president and vice president can run the government of reform and transformation,” Dickson said.

The NDC leader’s remarks signal the party’s ambition to compete for national power in 2027, with a campaign strategy that includes mobilising young voters and contesting legislative seats.

Dickson also described the 2027 election as a referendum on the performance of the incumbent government, urging young Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process.

He called on voters to reject vote-buying and intimidation, while encouraging them to protect their votes during the elections.

The former governor stressed that the party did not support violence or abusive political conduct.

“We are not for violence. We are not for abuses,” he said.

He urged NDC supporters to focus on the party’s policies and proposals rather than resorting to personal attacks against political opponents.

Dickson’s comments come as political parties and their prospective candidates prepare for the 2027 general election, with economic conditions, security and governance expected to feature prominently in political debates.

While criticising the APC’s record since 2015, Dickson said the NDC would seek a mandate to pursue reforms and address the challenges facing Nigerians.

His call for youth mobilisation forms part of the party’s effort to build support ahead of the polls.

However, the NDC’s electoral ambitions will ultimately depend on its performance in the campaign and the choices made by voters.
