Makinde Seeks Four-Year Presidency in 2027 Election

Seyi Makinde urges Nigerians to back his 2027 presidential bid, proposing a four-year transitional government of national unity

Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has urged Nigerians to give him four years in the Presidency, saying the South-West should be allowed to complete its proposed eight-year turn through a transitional government of national unity.

Makinde made the appeal on Thursday during the party’s town hall meeting in Akure, Ondo State, as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election.

President Bola Tinubu, who hails from Lagos State in the South-West, is seeking re-election after his first term in office.

Makinde said voters would decide whether the region should complete eight years in the Presidency.

“The rest of Nigeria will choose between if the South-West should complete its eight years. And if the answer is yes, allow Seyi to complete the remaining four years through a transitional government of national unity,” he said.

The Oyo State governor also urged APM members to intensify their campaign at the grassroots, calling on them to visit communities and engage voters directly rather than relying mainly on billboards and posters.

Makinde said the party’s members should distribute campaign flyers and explain its proposed Reset Agenda to Nigerians.

“What I want from the South-West, go door-to-door, go to every area, and it’s not an issue that somebody did billboards or they did posters. Take your fliers and go door-to-door, you will be well received because everybody is hungry,” he said.

He added that Nigerians were looking for a change in direction and encouraged party members to persuade voters to support the agenda.

“Nigerians want a reset, so go and meet them, they will receive you, convert them and explain the Reset Agenda to them,” Makinde said.

His comments come as political parties and aspirants position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with Tinubu seeking another term and opposition candidates presenting alternative political agendas.
