The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s handling of insecurity, arguing that even former President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired Army General, could not completely eliminate the challenge.
Yari spoke on Monday during a visit to Kebbi State, where he met Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and APC leaders to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general? Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” he said.
The former Zamfara State governor commended Governor Idris and other APC leaders for their efforts in rallying support for the party.
He appreciated the gathering of emirs under one umbrella at the palace of the Emir of Gwandu and recognised the contributions of governors towards ensuring victory for the party in 2027.
Yari said the campaign council would work with individuals and groups committed to Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of their positions.
On the economy, he stated that the hardship facing Nigerians was not peculiar to the country. He noted that inflation and fertiliser prices had declined and cited cash transfers to vulnerable households as part of efforts to ease the burden on citizens.
He urged Nigerians to support the President’s development agenda, adding that tackling insecurity required collective responsibility.
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris reaffirmed the state’s support for Tinubu, pointing to federal government projects in the state.
“We have no reason not to support the President. We have prominent leaders such as Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Amb. Saidu Dakingari. You have seen the people of Kebbi and their overwhelming support. We are for the APC and we are for President Tinubu,” Idris said.
