2027: Alli Accuses Makinde, Adekanmbi Over Violence

Oyo APC candidate Sharafadeen Alli accuses Makinde and Adekanmbi over political violence as tensions rise ahead of the 2027 election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has accused Governor Seyi Makinde and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, of being linked to rising political tensions in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, said no amount of violence would change what he described as the decision of Oyo voters in the forthcoming election.

The senator made the allegations in a statement issued on Monday by the Director of his campaign organisation, Bisi Oladele.

He claimed that residents of the state had rejected Makinde, who is also the presidential candidate of the APM, as well as Adekanmbi, the party’s governorship candidate.

The allegations come amid an escalating exchange between the APC and APM over a series of reported incidents in Ibadan.

Alli alleged that Makinde and Adekanmbi were responsible for instigating violence in the state, although the claims have not been independently established.

He also recalled that Makinde inherited what he described as a peaceful Oyo State from the administration of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

“No amount of violence will change the decision of the good people of Oyo State to reject the rootless APM in the 2027 elections,” Alli said.

His comments followed recent allegations involving attacks on APC members and political figures in Ibadan.

The Alli campaign organisation has previously accused APM supporters of attacking opposition figures and vandalising APC campaign billboards.

The APM, however, has rejected the accusations as unfounded and urged the APC to stop linking the party to violence without evidence.

The latest exchange has added to political tensions in Oyo State as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The controversy has also prompted calls for security agencies to investigate the reported incidents and establish those responsible.

Alli’s campaign organisation has challenged Makinde and Adekanmbi to allow security agencies to carry out their investigations and prosecute anyone found culpable.

The organisation has also urged its supporters to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The APM campaign organisation, for its part, has called on the APC and Alli to exercise restraint and avoid allegations that could heighten tensions in the state.

As the political contest ahead of 2027 gathers momentum, the dispute between the APC and APM in Oyo continues to centre on allegations of violence, campaign activities and competing claims over the support of voters.
