2027: We’ll Chase Tinubu Out If He Rejects Defeat – Momodu

Dele Momodu says Nigerians will resist President Tinubu if he refuses to leave office after losing the 2027 presidential election

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has warned that Nigerians would resist President Bola Tinubu if he refused to relinquish power after losing the 2027 presidential election.

Momodu made the remarks during an appearance on Arise News, where he questioned whether Nigerians could trust Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election.

The veteran journalist claimed that many Nigerians, including some of the President’s supporters, doubted his commitment to an electoral process that would produce a credible outcome.

“If you ask an average Nigerian today about Tinubu, ‘Do you trust Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election?’ I can tell you, 90 per cent of them will say no,” Momodu said.

He also argued that some people believed Tinubu might refuse to accept defeat if he failed to secure re-election.

“In fact, some people are even suggesting that if Tinubu loses the election, he will not agree to step down. I say, why won’t he agree? We will chase him away,” he added.

Momodu’s comments come amid growing political conversations ahead of the 2027 general election, when Tinubu is expected to seek another term in office.

The ADC chieftain said his confidence in the opposition’s prospects was not based solely on his party but also on what he described as growing dissatisfaction among ordinary Nigerians.

He maintained that many citizens did not want Tinubu to return for another four-year term, although he did not provide evidence to support his estimate of public opinion.

Momodu also said opposition figures were working behind the scenes to prevent Tinubu from securing a second term.

“I can’t tell you our strategy in public,” he said, adding that political actors were working to ensure the President did not win re-election.

He did not disclose specific details of the strategy.

Momodu further criticised what he described as an atmosphere of fear among public officials, alleging that governors, judges and legislators were reluctant to challenge the President.

He claimed that some politicians who publicly supported Tinubu were privately concerned about the political situation.

“I know some of them. They are praying fervently that they will not have to go through this situation where governors become like houseboys,” he said.

He added that political leaders should be able to advise the President to leave office when his tenure ends rather than treat him as someone beyond criticism.

“So, Tinubu has become a god whom nobody is ready to confront and say, ‘Oga, you’ve done your best. Please, go home,’” Momodu said.

The allegations reflect Momodu’s political position and assessment of the current administration. The President’s response to the comments was not included in the report.
