Sam Amadi says an Igbo presidency can come only through dignity, repeating that life itself has little value without it
Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, said on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, that an Igbo presidency in Nigeria can be won only through dignity, posting the argument on X as talk of 2027 gathers pace.

“I have said it before, the only pathway to Igbo presidency in Nigeria is a path called ‘dignity’. Eji ndu eme gini (what is the value of life), talk less of Nigerian presidency, outside dignity.”
He did not name a candidate in that post. The claim is about the manner of the bid, not the party label.
Calls for a president from the South-East were loud in 2019 and 2023. Peter Obi was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate on the Peoples Democratic Party ticket in 2019.
In 2023 he ran for the Labour Party and finished third behind Atiku Abubakar and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress. He is the Nigeria Democratic Congress candidate for 2027.
Sam Amadi’s line sits beside that history rather than rewriting it. Dignity, in his wording, is the condition. Office without it, he suggests, is a hollow prize.

The post does not set out a programme, a party strategy or a verdict on Peter Obi. It sets a test. Those who want an Igbo presidency, he says, must walk that path first.
