APC spokesman Felix Morka accuses Atiku, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso of grandstanding, saying they contributed to Nigeria’s longstanding problems
Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, accused African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi and Obi’s running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso of grandstanding over Nigeria’s challenges on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, during a TVC interview ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Morka argued that the three opposition figures could not distance themselves from the political establishment they had participated in, saying their records should be considered alongside their criticism of the current administration.
His remarks focused particularly on Kwankwaso, the former Kano State governor and former presidential candidate, whom Morka described as part of the establishment responsible for problems confronting the country.
“Kwankwaso, a new direction to where? And I will offer an answer: a new direction to nowhere,” Morka said on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines.
Morka argued that Kwankwaso’s political history made it difficult for him to present himself as an entirely new alternative to the Nigerian political system.
“He has been and remains a part and parcel of the Nigerian establishment,” Morka said.
The APC spokesman maintained that the country’s current difficulties did not emerge solely under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He said successive governments, including civilian administrations, had contributed to the problems Nigerians now face.
Morka also grouped Atiku and Obi into his criticism, accusing opposition politicians of using political rhetoric to distance themselves from a history of governance.
“So when men like Atiku, Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and some of these elements of the opposition come out to grandstand, I don’t need to say much because I think that Nigerians understand what they are up to,” he said.
The comments come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition parties and coalitions attempting to present alternatives to the ruling APC.
Atiku, a former vice-president and longtime presidential contender, has joined the African Democratic Congress platform as its presidential candidate.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, is also preparing to contest under a new political platform, while Kwankwaso has emerged as his running mate in the NDC ticket.
The alignment has added a new dimension to the opposition landscape, bringing together politicians with substantial national followings but different political histories.
Morka’s argument is that the experience of those opposition figures should be viewed alongside the failures they now attribute to the current government.
He broadened the criticism beyond the individuals, saying Nigeria’s governance problems had accumulated over generations.
“Nigerians know that this country, over generations, was severely misgoverned, not just by the military dictatorship but by Democrats who wielded authority in this country,” Morka said.
The APC spokesman’s comments reflect a central argument likely to shape the 2027 campaign: whether responsibility for Nigeria’s economic and institutional difficulties should be attributed principally to the current administration or understood as the product of decades of governance across successive political eras.
