APC Chairman Explains Visit to Kwankwaso Ally in Kano

APC Chairman Visit to Kwankwaso Ally was aimed at promoting peace and unity in Kano, according to Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has explained that his visit to Senator Rufai Hanga, an ally of former Kano governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, was intended to promote peace, unity and development in Kano State.

Yilwatda disclosed this in a statement on Thursday after paying a courtesy visit to Hanga, who is a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and has maintained close political ties with Kwankwaso.

The visit focused on discussions around issues affecting Kano State and the need for political leaders to work together despite differences in party affiliation.

“Our discussions were cordial and focused on the unity, peace, stability, and future of Kano State,” Yilwatda said.

The APC chairman said political disagreements should not prevent leaders from cooperating on matters that affect citizens, stressing that national development requires dialogue and collaboration.

“Nigeria’s progress is best served when we build bridges of understanding, encourage constructive dialogue, and place the welfare of citizens above partisan considerations,” he added.

The meeting comes amid reported tensions between Hanga and Kwankwaso following a series of public comments by the lawmaker expressing dissatisfaction with developments within the Kwankwasiyya political movement.

Hanga had previously voiced disappointment after losing his ticket to Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and alleged that Kwankwaso considered giving the Kano governorship ticket to his son, Mustapha Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

Kwankwaso has remained a major political figure in Kano and the wider northern political landscape.

Yilwatda’s visit highlights ongoing efforts by political actors to maintain engagement across party lines as preparations gradually build towards future elections.

The APC chairman said constructive relationships among leaders remain important for addressing challenges facing communities and improving governance outcomes.

The meeting also reflects a broader pattern of political outreach in Kano, where alliances and rivalries continue to shape the state’s political direction.
