Confusion Deepens in Plateau PDP as Turaki Faction Issues Controversial Guber Ticket

Plateau PDP Guber Ticket Confusion deepens as Turaki faction presents 2027 governorship certificate to Sunday Biggs amid parallel party claims

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been thrown into fresh uncertainty following the emergence of a parallel governorship ticket structure for the 2027 elections, deepening internal divisions within the party.

On Wednesday, June 25, 2026, the faction of the PDP led by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, formally presented a Certificate of Return to Sunday Garba Biggs as its governorship candidate for Plateau State ahead of the 2027 election in Nigeria.

The development comes barely 24 hours after another PDP faction aligned with former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, also issued a separate Certificate of Return to its own preferred governorship candidate, further intensifying what party insiders describe as a worsening leadership crisis.

At the ceremony organised after a National Working Committee meeting of the Turaki-led faction, key stakeholders including state chairmen, members of the Board of Trustees, governorship aspirants and party elders gathered to endorse Biggs as the flagbearer.

Sunday Garba Biggs expressed gratitude following the presentation, describing the development as a clear mandate to lead the PDP’s governorship campaign in Plateau State.

He said the responsibility placed on him reflects confidence in his capacity to promote unity, good governance and sustainable development across the state.

According to him, “this moment is not just about a certificate, but about trust, responsibility and the future of Plateau State.”

Party stakeholders at the event also described Biggs as a unifying figure with the capacity to bridge internal divisions and reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, political observers have raised concerns that the ongoing parallel structures within the PDP could weaken its electoral strength, warning that the situation mirrors previous internal disputes that affected the party’s performance in past elections.

Analysts note that the emergence of multiple candidates and competing factions may further complicate the party’s chances if unresolved ahead of the polls, potentially setting the stage for another contentious political season in Plateau State.
