NDC Leaders Accuse Kwankwaso of Explosive Party Takeover

NDC Kwankwaso party structure crisis North West deepens as leaders accuse him of hijacking party control and excluding members

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has been plunged into fresh internal tension after senior party officials accused its Vice Presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of attempting to take control of the party structure in the North West.

The allegations were contained in a joint statement issued by the party’s North West Vice Chairman, Mohammed Rabiu Serina, and the Kano State Chairman, Hussaini Isa Mariga, who claimed that Kwankwaso had been excluding non-Kwankwasiyya members from contesting elective positions under the party’s platform.

Dispute has further exposed widening divisions within the party, with both sides presenting conflicting accounts of internal arrangements and leadership agreements.

According to Serina and Mariga, both men described themselves as pioneer members of the party, stating that they were appointed by the party’s National Leader, former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, before its formal registration and later confirmed through congresses and national conventions.

They insisted that they played a central role in building the party’s structures across Kano State and the wider North West region before Kwankwaso and his supporters joined the party.

In a strongly worded claim, the officials alleged that the current dispute began when Kwankwaso pushed for full control of the party structure during state congresses, triggering internal disagreements.

They further referenced an earlier intervention by the party leadership, stating that Seriake Dickson had convened a meeting to broker a power-sharing arrangement that allocated 60 per cent control of the Kano structure to Kwankwaso and his supporters, while the remaining 40 per cent was retained by the party’s original structure.
