PDP deputy candidate defects to APC Kano as Yusuf Bello Danbatta cites consultations and stronger platform for development in Kano State

Former Peoples Democratic Party deputy governorship candidate in Kano State, Dr Yusuf Bello Danbatta, Kano State, Nigeria, on 5 June 2026, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress in a move that reshapes the PDP deputy candidate defects to APC Kano political landscape ahead of future elections.

Danbatta announced his defection in a formal statement released to journalists in Kano, stating that the decision followed wide consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders across the state.

He said the move was taken after careful reflection on his political future and the best platform to advance development objectives for Kano State and Nigeria.

According to him, the APC offers a stronger and more suitable platform to contribute meaningfully to governance and public service delivery.

Danbatta added that he remains committed to the development of Kano State and believes his new political alignment will enhance his ability to serve the people more effectively.

He expressed appreciation for his time in the Peoples Democratic Party, thanking members and leaders for their support and cooperation during his tenure as a party chieftain.

The former PDP deputy governorship candidate also praised what he described as the APC’s inclusive political structure and its focus on improving citizens’ welfare across different sectors.

He further noted that his decision was guided by a desire to promote unity, peace, and sustainable development within the political space.
