Gombe Defections Boost APC in Positive Political Shift

Gombe APC Defection Boost as opposition members join APC, backing Tinubu’s re-election bid and Gwamna’s governorship ambition

A coalition of opposition party stakeholders in Gombe State on Thursday delivered a significant Gombe APC Defection Boost, formally joining the All Progressives Congress, APC, and pledging support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid alongside Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna’s governorship aspiration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The coalition comprised members drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, African Democratic Congress, ADC, and Labour Party, LP, who said their decision followed internal reviews of the outcomes of their respective parties’ primary elections.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Prof. Sulaiman Dankande, Nura Abba, Abdullah Amtai, Dedan Mela and Murtala Usman Dukku announced their collective resolve to align with the ruling party, describing the move as a strategic political realignment ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The defectors were formally received into the APC by the party chairman in Gombe Local Government Area, Idris Saleh, who presented them with membership cards in what party officials described as a strengthening of grassroots support.

The development underscores ongoing political recalibration in the state as parties position themselves for the 2027 elections, with shifting alliances becoming increasingly prominent in the region.

In a separate development, former APC National Youth Leader, Sadiq Abubakar, emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Gombe State following the party’s primary election.

Sadiq Abubakar confirmed his emergence shortly after the exercise, describing it as a milestone in his political journey following his departure from the APC.

He had resigned from the ruling party weeks earlier, citing economic challenges and dissatisfaction with policy direction, while expressing a desire to operate within a platform he described as more transparent in its internal processes.

Abubakar stated that his decision to join the NDC was driven by his ambition to participate in a political structure that prioritises credible and open primary elections.

He added that the new platform would provide him with an opportunity to pursue his political goals and contribute to governance in Gombe State.
