Fayose Accuses Oyo Govt Over Tinubu Blackmail Claim

Ayodele Fayose has accused the Oyo State Government of politicising the Oyo school abduction and attempting to blackmail President Tinubu

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused the Oyo State Government of allegedly using the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State to politically blackmail President Bola Tinubu.

Fayose made the allegation during a television interview, where he questioned the handling of the incident by the administration of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

The abduction occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026, in Oriire Local Government Area, sparking nationwide outrage and renewed concern over school safety across Nigeria.

President Tinubu later sent a Federal Government delegation to the affected communities and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of the victims.

Fayose, however, argued that the state government should have acted more swiftly and should not allow the incident to be used as a political tool against the Federal Government.

He said governance responsibilities, including security coordination, exist at both state and local government levels.

“In Oyo State, I strongly believe though I might be wrong but this sometimes can be orchestrated,” Fayose said.

The former governor further alleged that political activities were prioritised over the welfare of victims’ families, claiming that visits to affected communities came only after party nominations had been concluded.

Fayose also suggested that the abduction may have been staged to embarrass the Federal Government, a claim that is expected to intensify political debate across the country.

The remarks have already begun generating controversy amid ongoing tensions between the ruling All Progressives Congress and opposition figures in the South-West region.
