The Labour Party has rescheduled its 2026 primaries to May 30, citing Eid el-Kabir celebrations and Democracy Day anniversary
The Labour Party Labour Party has announced a rescheduling of its 2026 primary elections, shifting all governorship, legislative and presidential primaries to a unified date.

Initially scheduled for 27 May and 29 May 2026 for different categories of offices, the party has now fixed Saturday, 30 May 2026 as the new date for all primaries across the country.
According to a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the adjustment was necessary due to the coincidence of the earlier dates with significant national events.
He explained that 27 May coincides with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration, while 29 May marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders in Nigeria.
“As a people-oriented and responsive political party, we deemed it appropriate to adjust its schedule in order to enable members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians generally to fully observe these important occasions,” the statement read.
The party added that it regretted any inconvenience the change may cause aspirants and stakeholders, while expressing appreciation for their understanding and cooperation.

The development comes as political parties across the country continue preparations for the 2026 election cycle, with internal primaries expected to play a key role in shaping candidates for various elective positions.
