Obi Alleges INEC Boss Acting Script for Tinubu in Explosive Claim

Peter Obi alleges INEC Chairman is acting on Tinubu’s script, raising concerns about electoral independence in a leaked interview excerpt

Peter Obi, a frontline presidential aspirant of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, has accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, of allegedly acting under directives linked to President Bola Tinubu.

The allegation was contained in excerpts of an interview granted to News Central TV, which are yet to be fully released.

In the circulating excerpts, Obi claimed he had written to the INEC Chairman, warning him that he would not remain in office indefinitely and urging him to uphold institutional independence.

He expressed concern over the management of Nigeria’s electoral system, suggesting that reliance on academics to oversee elections had not produced better outcomes.

Obi stated that INEC’s conduct, in his view, reflects influence from the presidency.

According to him, the commission appears to operate under a “script” allegedly set by those who appointed its leadership.

He said, “Yes, completely. Whatever the INEC Chairman is doing today, he is acting the script written by the man who employed him.”

The comments form part of a wider debate around electoral credibility and institutional independence ahead of future elections.

Neither the Bola Tinubu nor INEC has publicly responded to the claims as of the time of this report.
