In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC clarified that circulating claims about a change in schedule were false and misleading.
The party reaffirmed its timetable for the 2026 primary elections, setting clear dates for all levels of contests leading up to the presidential primary.
According to the schedule, House of Representatives primaries will take place on May 15, followed by Senate primaries on May 18. State House of Assembly primaries are fixed for May 20, while governorship primaries will be held on May 21.
The APC presidential primary date 2026 was firmly maintained as May 23, 2026, marking the final stage of the party’s internal selection process.
The party also confirmed that screening of incumbent governors has commenced as part of its preparation for the primaries.
Among those screened were Governors Abba Yusuf of Kano, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, and Hyacinth Alia of Benue.
Others include Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Umar Bago of Niger, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Bassey Otu of Cross River, and Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto.
The APC said the exercise is part of efforts to ensure transparency and orderliness as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
