APC Consensus Does Not Block Aspirants, Says Screening Chair

APC screening committee chair Farouk Aliyu says consensus arrangements do not stop other aspirants, as direct primaries will apply where needed

ABUJA, Nigeria, May 11, 2026. All Progressives Congress Governorship and National Assembly Screening Committee Chairman, Farouk Aliyu, has clarified that the party’s consensus arrangement does not prevent other aspirants from contesting in its primaries.

APC consensus direct primaries explanation, where Aliyu addressed concerns surrounding candidate selection ahead of the party’s internal elections.

He explained that while governors and stakeholders may present preferred candidates under a consensus arrangement, such decisions do not exclude other interested aspirants from participating in the process.

According to him, where disagreements arise over consensus choices, the party will resort to direct primaries to ensure a fair and democratic contest among all contenders.

Aliyu stressed that no aspirant will be shut out of the process, regardless of internal agreements or endorsements within state structures.
