Jigawa Lawmakers Lose Return Tickets in Consensus Primaries Shake-Up

Jigawa consensus primaries ticket loss sees Hon. Sa’adu Taura and Hon. Aminu Sankara replaced after stakeholders adopt new consensus candidates

Two lawmakers in Jigawa State have lost their bids for re-election after stakeholders adopted a consensus arrangement that reshaped the outcome of the ruling party’s internal selection process.

Jigawa consensus primaries ticket loss saw Hon. Sa’adu Wada Taura, representing Ringim and Taura Federal Constituency, dropped in favour of Hon. Yusha’u Muhammad following a screening exercise supervised by a committee set up by Governor Umar Namadi.

The committee was mandated to evaluate aspirants and streamline the contest to three candidates before arriving at a final consensus choice.

Reports indicate that no fewer than eleven aspirants initially vied for the ticket.

Hon. Taura’s political setback comes amid growing dissatisfaction within his constituency, particularly after controversy surrounding his decision to publish a list of constituents who allegedly received financial assistance from him since taking office in 2023.

The publication reportedly triggered backlash, with some recipients publicly rejecting the disclosure and returning funds.

In a related development, Hon. Aminu Sule Sankara, who represents Ringim Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, also lost his return ticket through the same consensus arrangement.

He was replaced by Hon. Hamza Muhammad Ustaz after stakeholder deliberations.
