Iyabo Obasanjo Rejects APC Consensus Process Ahead of 2027 Elections

Iyabo Obasanjo rejects APC consensus process in Ogun, calling for fairness and inclusion in candidate selection ahead of the 2027 elections

Former Ogun State governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo, has criticised the party’s consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 elections, calling for a more inclusive and transparent selection process.

Obasanjo spoke after the Ogun APC caucus meeting held on April 13, 2026, where Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola was announced as the party’s consensus candidate.

Although she had earlier pledged to abide by the outcome of the consensus process, she expressed dissatisfaction with how the meeting was conducted and how some aspirants were treated.

She alleged that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue, while others were reportedly assaulted by a party official, an incident she said required medical attention.

According to her, the rejection was not about defiance but concern over fairness, discipline, and internal party conduct.

Obasanjo also claimed that her campaign efforts across Ogun State were not properly acknowledged during the meeting, despite what she described as strong grassroots mobilisation.

She further noted that only aspirants from a particular zone were publicly recognised, describing the situation as discouraging for inclusive politics.

Despite her grievances, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the APC and her support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing that she has no intention of leaving the party.

She urged party leadership to adopt a more transparent and inclusive approach in future decisions, insisting that unity must be built on fairness and mutual respect.

“True unity is not achieved by consensus alone, but through recognition and collective engagement,” she said.
