The PDP NEC meeting crisis comes after months of internal disputes that led to the sealing of the party’s secretariat in November 2025, following a violent confrontation between rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership.
The clash involved the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee, both of whom have continued to assert authority over the party structure.
Tensions escalated further after an Appeal Court ruling in March 2026 invalidated the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led leadership. The judgment has since become a key reference point in the ongoing dispute over control of the party.
The Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction has relied on the court decision to strengthen its position and subsequently held a convention in Abuja, further deepening divisions within the party.
Today’s NEC meeting is expected to bring together members aligned with the Abdulrahman Mohammed faction, including prominent figures such as Nyesom Wike, Bukola Saraki, and Okezie Ikpeazu.
Political observers say the meeting is a significant moment for the PDP as it attempts to navigate one of its most serious internal crises in recent years, with questions over legitimacy, unity, and future leadership direction still unresolved.

The outcome of the Abuja gathering is expected to shape the next phase of the party’s internal realignment as rival factions continue to contest control of its national structure.
