The National Convention of the African Democratic Congress (African Democratic Congress) began under tense and uncertain conditions at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission reportedly absent at the opening.

The ADC national convention Abuja tension was evident as preparations continued inside the venue while delegates arrived for the scheduled proceedings.

A correspondent from Arise News at the scene reported that no INEC officials were present when activities were expected to commence.

Inside the hall, arrangements were still ongoing, with equipment installation and logistical setup continuing as delegates gathered.

According to the reporter, the environment appeared disorganised, with electricity issues and incomplete preparations contributing to a delayed start.

“There are no INEC officials here at the moment,” the correspondent said, adding that verification efforts had not confirmed their presence at the time.

The situation added to growing concerns around the convention, which has been surrounded by political tension in recent days.

Reports had earlier suggested alleged attempts to disrupt or delay the use of the venue for the gathering, raising questions about possible interference.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had also expressed concern over reports of potential withdrawal of the event centre’s operating licence ahead of the convention.

The ADC national convention Abuja tension was further heightened by recent calls from some party members in the House of Representatives for the removal and prosecution of the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, over alleged bias claims.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining its neutrality in internal party affairs.
