Bode George Accuses Tinubu of Plotting One Party Rule

Bode George Tinubu accusation sparks reaction as PDP leader claims plot to weaken opposition and criticises INEC ahead of 2027 elections

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of allegedly neglecting his constitutional responsibilities while pursuing what he described as a plan to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general election.

Bode George’s claims about Tinubu was made in a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, where the PDP chieftain alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were working towards positioning President Tinubu as the sole candidate in the next presidential election.

George warned that such alleged moves threaten Nigeria’s multi party democracy, arguing that attempts to sideline opposition voices could destabilise the country’s political structure.

Bode George’s allegation against Tinubu also included criticism of INEC leadership, with George alleging that the electoral body had become compromised and was acting in ways that undermine democratic principles.

He further accused the administration of focusing more on political survival than on addressing insecurity and economic challenges facing Nigerians, insisting that citizens were increasingly exposed to violence and hardship.

In his remarks, George called on elder statesmen across political divides to speak out against what he described as growing democratic erosion, warning that silence could worsen the situation.

The PDP elder statesman also referenced historical and biblical examples to emphasise his concerns, urging leaders to reflect on legacy and accountability in governance.
