ADC Zones Benue State Chairmanship to Zone B Ahead of 2027

ADC allocates Benue State chairmanship to Zone B to ensure balance amid calls for an Idoma governor ahead of 2027 elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State has formally zoned its state chairmanship to Zone B, a move analysts say reflects a strategic effort to balance regional interests ahead of the 2027 elections.

The decision follows a report by a seven-member zoning committee inaugurated by the State Working Committee on March 23, 2026, at the party’s secretariat in Makurdi.

The panel was tasked with distributing executive positions across the three senatorial districts in a manner that ensures inclusiveness, coalition cohesion, and internal party democracy.

According to the committee’s findings, Zone B secured the State Chairman role, alongside the Organizing Secretary, while Zone C obtained the State Secretary post.

Eighteen positions were distributed equally across the zones, giving six offices to each district, including roles such as Auditor, Publicity Secretary, and Vice Chairman.

Political observers note the significance of awarding the chairmanship to Zone B, which primarily represents the Idoma-speaking area. The allocation is viewed as strengthening the bloc’s influence in ongoing calls for an Idoma candidate in the 2027 gubernatorial race.

The zoning committee, chaired by Cdre Joseph Zumve (rtd) and secretaried by Hon. Friday Ochigbo, included representatives from multiple parties within the coalition, reflecting ADC’s multi-platform alliance with APC, LP, APGA, and PDP.

The group emphasised that the distribution followed an equity-driven approach and respected directives from the party’s National Working Committee to maintain at least 30 percent representation across zones.
