The governor addressed the rumours on Wednesday shortly after the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House in Bauchi, where journalists pressed him for clarification on reports of an imminent political move.
Responding briefly, Mohammed declined a full interview but sought to calm speculation surrounding his political future.
“Pressmen, no interview for now. I will speak with Channels at 7 pm,” he said.
However, he directly countered the claims, stating unequivocally: “I have not moved; they said that I have defected.”
The Bauchi governor, who described himself as an “international figure in politics,” indicated that he would provide further clarification later, before proceeding with official duties.
Beyond the political rumours, Mohammed also used the occasion to charge newly appointed permanent secretaries to uphold integrity, warning against corruption and misconduct within the state civil service.
He stressed that his administration would not tolerate actions capable of undermining public trust, urging civil servants to remain disciplined, avoid partisan involvement, and mentor younger staff.
The governor further reiterated his commitment to clearing outstanding pension obligations, including about N20 billion in gratuities, noting that phased payments of arrears began earlier in 2026.
