Lagos Strengthens Security with Fully Funded Modern Police Stations

Lagos State secures federal funding to construct six modern police stations, boosting security and operational efficiency across strategic locations.

Lagos State is set for a significant boost in internal security as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund has secured a federal donor to fully fund the construction of six new modern police stations across the state.

Construction work has already commenced and will proceed in phases to cover additional stations.

The new facilities are located at Morogbo Police Division in Badagry; Elere Police Division in Agege; Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Yaba; Oko Awo Police Station in Jankara, Lagos Island; MAN Centre Police Station in Ikeja; and a Police Division in Ilasamaja.

The strategic placement of these stations is designed to enhance operational efficiency, reduce response times, and strengthen policing across key urban and semi-urban corridors.

Under the leadership of LSSTF Executive Secretary and CEO, Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, the initiative exemplifies the growing collaboration between public institutions and donor-backed projects aimed at modernising security infrastructure in Nigeria’s commercial hub.

With Lagos’ population exceeding 20 million and thousands entering the city daily, many existing police facilities have long faced capacity constraints, outdated equipment, and inadequate working conditions.

The new stations are purpose-built to meet contemporary policing demands.

The Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit is expected to bolster intelligence-led operations against organized crime, while Morogbo Division will enhance border and coastal security.

Elere and Ilasamaja Divisions aim to improve community policing, and the facilities in Ikeja and Lagos Island will support law enforcement in commercial and financial hubs.

Beyond operational benefits, the infrastructure upgrade is anticipated to improve the working environment for officers, enhance quality of life for residents, and boost investor confidence.

The phased rollout ensures that additional police stations across Lagos will gradually benefit from improved infrastructure.

Since October 2025, LSSTF under Dr. Ogunsan has intensified efforts to mobilise government, private sector, and development partners in support of law enforcement agencies.
