INEC security elections are vital, says Chairman Joash Amupitan, linking national stability to credible 2027 polls in Nigeria

Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman Joash O. Amupitan has stressed that security and national stability are essential to maintaining the integrity of elections in Nigeria. Amupitan highlighted that credible elections remain a top priority as Nigeria continues to strengthen its democratic process. He praised AANISS for building the capacity of senior security officers and enhancing the country’s security architecture, noting that electoral integrity is directly linked to national stability.

The INEC chairman reassured the association that the Commission remains committed to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, leveraging innovative strategies and close collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.

Leading the delegation, AANISS President Mike Ejiofor explained that the visit aimed to strengthen ties between the electoral body and security institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the association, which includes senior officers from the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, and regulatory bodies, provides strategic expertise vital for maintaining national stability during electoral cycles.

Ejiofor noted that participation in the National Institute for Security Studies programme equips top management personnel with insights to navigate complex security dynamics surrounding elections.

“With the enormous expectations placed on INEC as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections, it is important that the Commission is represented in the course to strengthen strategic coordination on electoral security,” he said.
