Kwara Redemption Movement defects from APC to ADC, forming a rainbow coalition to challenge current governance ahead of 2027 elections
The Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM), a coalition of politicians within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling a new phase in the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made at a mass gathering in Ilorin, with KRM leaders urging their supporters to register with the ADC and strengthen its grassroots presence.
Led by former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman and APC chieftain, Hon. Iyiola Oyedepo, the KRM claims to represent over 20,000 members across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Oyedepo described the move as a decisive step to provide Kwarans with a credible alternative to the incumbent administration led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“The Kwara Redemption Movement was formed to promote a new paradigm in governance, but as APC became dominated by individual and family interests, we sought a platform that respects alternative views,” Oyedepo said.
He added that the coalition’s primary focus is on people-centred governance, accountability, and transparency.
The KRM’s defection has created what Oyedepo called a “rainbow coalition,” bringing together long-standing ADC members and defectors from multiple parties including PDP, Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and APC.
He emphasised that the coalition prioritises the interests of Kwara State above personal ambitions or national politics.
Governorship aspirant of ADC, Hon. Moshood Mustapha, echoed the call for unity, pledging to abide by party resolutions and urging members to set aside individual rivalries.
“We must remain united. What we are building is a rainbow coalition with one purpose: defeat the incumbent government and install a people-driven administration,” Mustapha said.
KRM leaders and speakers at the event criticised the current state administration for inadequate social amenities, underdevelopment in local councils, and rising insecurity, despite the state’s federal allocations and internally generated revenues.
They vowed to work towards ensuring that APC does not return to power in the 2027 elections.
