Speaking on Monday while hosting heads of security agencies for Iftar, the Muslim breaking of the Ramadan fast, the Governor said his administration welcomes criticism but will not condone the spread of falsehoods aimed at fomenting crisis.

“Some people just sit down in the comfort of their homes and start spreading rumours through social media. People should not hide under Freedom of Speech to cause trouble. We will not accept that in Kaduna State,” Governor Uba Sani said.

He emphasised that political campaigns are set to begin soon, with primaries scheduled between April and May according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable.

He cautioned that politicians who lose contests may attempt to create confusion by spreading false information and advised security agencies to remain vigilant.

The Governor called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, local government chairmen, and traditional and religious leaders to deepen intelligence gathering at the grassroots.

He commended their commitment and cooperation, noting that Kaduna State has not recorded any ethno-religious crisis since he assumed office.

“Kaduna is home to all tribes and religions because our people are hospitable and accommodating. Government will continue to preserve this harmony,” he said, adding that his office remains open to suggestions on tackling challenges such as banditry and kidnapping.

Governor Uba Sani reiterated that while freedom of speech is respected, it is not a license to spread fake news that could lead to loss of lives and property.

“We will deal with conflict merchants who want to disrupt the present peace in Kaduna State in the name of politics, within the ambit of the law,” he warned.
