Fubara Issues Stern Warning to New Rivers Officials

Fubara warning Rivers officials as governor cautions new SSG and Chief of Staff against misconduct and unauthorised meetings in Port Harcourt

Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has warned newly appointed Secretary to the State Government Dr Dagogo Wokoma and Chief of Staff Barrister Sunny Ewule against engaging in unauthorised meetings or conduct capable of embarrassing the administration, declaring that any breach would attract immediate dismissal.

Sir Siminalayi Fubara delivered the caution on Thursday shortly after the swearing-in ceremony held at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt.

The Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, administered the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office on the two appointees before the governor addressed them.

The governor described their appointments as a call to disciplined service rather than a platform for political grandstanding or personal ambition.

Sir Siminalayi Fubara stressed that integrity, restraint and loyalty must define their conduct in office.

Addressing Dr Dagogo Wokoma, whom he characterised as an accomplished academic and mathematician, the governor expressed confidence in his intellectual depth.

Sir Siminalayi Fubara noted that the office of the Secretary to the State Government requires thoroughness and a profound sense of responsibility, particularly in representing the state with honour.

“What is important to this administration is to see that the good works that we started and the ones that we met are concluded in a way that will bring progress and development to our dear state,” the governor said.

Turning to Barrister Sunny Ewule, Sir Siminalayi Fubara underscored the sensitive nature of the Chief of Staff role, emphasising that it operates strictly under the governor’s authority.

He made clear that independent political engagements or nocturnal meetings without his knowledge would not be tolerated.

“If you involve yourself in nocturnal meetings and all those things, I will sack you. I’m very serious. What is important to me today is peace, progress and prosperity of this state. I’m not going to compromise anything for it,” Sir Siminalayi Fubara stated.

The governor further cautioned that any action capable of bringing the government into disrepute would attract firm sanctions.

He urged all public officials to prioritise unity, observing that collective success remains more enduring than individual achievement.

Sir Siminalayi Fubara also directed Permanent Secretaries who have reached retirement age to begin preparing their handover notes, stressing that the move was intended to ensure orderly transition rather than cause alarm.
