Omoyele Sowore Accuses US of Strategic Interference in Nigeria

Omoyele Sowore alleges US involvement in Nigeria is driven by strategic interests against China, not concern for Nigerians

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate and activist, has alleged that United States involvement in Nigerian affairs is motivated by strategic interests to counter China, rather than genuine concern for Nigerians.

Sowore criticised remarks by U.S. Congress members regarding insecurity in Nigeria, describing them as misleading and disconnected from local realities.

“Americans or Trump don’t care about you; they care about how to drive China out of the Nigerian market,” he said, adding, “I suspect that there is an agenda to recolonize Nigeria, if you hear what Mark Rubi said.”

Sowore highlighted Nigeria’s widespread insecurity, describing the country as “dangerous for anyone to live in, whether Christian or Muslim.”

He further warned that foreign powers might be attempting to influence Nigeria under the guise of concern, suggesting a broader strategy to “recolonize” the nation.

The activist also criticised the weakening of the Nigerian military, claiming mismanagement has left the country vulnerable to external interference.

“The resilience and expertise of Nigerian soldiers could handle any situation, but the military and the country have been deliberately undermined so anyone can come and dictate to us, while Nigerians applaud,” Sowore stated.
