Rauf Aregbesola Explains Joining ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Rauf Aregbesola clarifies joining ADC was deliberate to pursue his 2027 political vision after expulsion from APC

Former Osun State governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has clarified that his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was a deliberate choice rather than a defection.

In a video shared on X on Monday, February 23, Aregbesola addressed ADC supporters, saying he joined the party as a platform to pursue his political vision for Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“For context, I did not defect to ADC. I joined ADC as a platform to lead Nigerians from the darkness it is now to a new light,” he said.

Aregbesola explained that his decision followed failed efforts to reform the All Progressives Congress (APC) from within and his subsequent expulsion.

“After a long effort to correct the madness in APC, which the current leadership refused to do, they expelled me without due process. All those who were with me were also expelled,” he stated.

He added that the expulsion left him and his loyalists with only two choices: to abandon politics or remain active and pursue their objectives through a new platform.

Aregbesola urged the ruling party to focus on internal reforms, democracy, and citizen-focused policies, warning that political realignments alone cannot guarantee electoral success in 2027.

He also criticised the APC for Nigeria’s worsening economic and security situation, arguing that ordinary citizens can no longer rely on the party to deliver effective governance. The politician encouraged Nigerians to consider the ADC as a credible alternative.
