Ibrahim Karaye, Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Kano State, made the allegation in a statement issued at the party’s headquarters in Kano.
Ibrahim Karaye described the alleged actions as undemocratic and unwarranted.
Ibrahim Karaye urged the state government to desist from what he termed harassment of individuals who have a constitutional right to freedom of association.
“This political persecution against our members is undemocratic, unjustifiable and a clear abuse of power,” Ibrahim Karaye said.
Ibrahim Karaye stated that the state government, which assumed office on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party before parting ways with the party, had begun targeting former officials and party leaders.
According to Ibrahim Karaye, the governor withdrew Hajj seats earlier allocated to certain members of the party, including former commissioners and advisers.
Ibrahim Karaye described the move as discriminatory and unacceptable.
“Our members, as citizens of Kano State, are entitled to the same rights and privileges as every other citizen,” Ibrahim Karaye said.
“Retracting Hajj seats allocated to them simply because of political differences is unacceptable and discriminatory.”
Ibrahim Karaye further alleged that some former government officials were being pressured to return vehicles allocated to them during their tenure.
Ibrahim Karaye argued that the vehicles formed part of their consolidated benefits while in office.
The party cautioned that political activities should be conducted with decorum and mutual respect.
The statement stressed that political offices are not permanent and warned against actions that could deepen political tensions in the state.
Ibrahim Karaye called on the Kano State Government to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and protect the right to freedom of association.
