ADA INEC registration blocked, Umar Ardo denies Peter Obi link and pledges legal challenge to secure party approval
Umar Ardo, promoter of the All Democratic Alliance, ADA, has dismissed claims connecting the party to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s refusal to register ADA.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Ardo described the rumours as false and misleading, emphasising that ADA complied fully with all legal requirements for party registration.
He said speculation that INEC blocked the party due to perceived Obi involvement was unfounded.
“Assuming, without conceding, that Peter Obi is behind ADA, is Peter Obi not any Nigerian? Does he not have the right to sponsor a political party?” Ardo asked, stressing that he has never met Obi and that the matter is independent of the former presidential candidate.
Ardo confirmed that the group would pursue legal redress, saying the dispute would be taken through the courts and, if necessary, to the Supreme Court.
He stressed that ADA’s aim is to demonstrate adherence to the law, regardless of whether it participates in the upcoming 2027 elections.
“But for us to meet all this and then they [INEC] said no, we will keep quiet. Let the courts determine. We believe that we are going to participate in the election if the court rules in our favour, but if not, we will take the matter to the Supreme Court,” he said.
The ADA promoter’s statement comes amid heightened speculation in political circles over the party’s formation and potential ties to prominent figures, including Obi.

Ardo insisted that ADA remains independent and committed to demonstrating full legal compliance in its quest for recognition.
